"G'night, Cath." Replied Vane "Ill sleep in the stables, they are bound to be more comfortable than this hole of an inn."
Watching the leaders of the 'Daggers disappear, he turned to the new boy Dace smilling at him he says "Got these from a Ghast the other night. What d'ye think?"
Placing the piece of leather on the table between himself and Dace he opened it out showing the contents of two gems and a silver ring.
The first of the small gems was a red stone the colour of freshly spilled blood. The second of the stones was a yellow colour that seemingly changes to a blue depending on how its orientated in the lantern light. The ring itself is small and silver with a leaf motif on it, its has no other distinguishing marks.

OOC: Since Zeric had already left the table to look for likely sources of information, he considered himsefl to be a mere figment of Vane's imagination and therefore neglected to put forth his opinion on the gemstones. Meanwhile, the real Zeric wandered over to the barman, " Another glass of wine, please." He waited for the drink and then asked, " Is traffic along the road down? I am from Cromm's Hold and my Lady was expecting a merchant caravan some days ago. Have you, by any chance, heard anything of bandit activity which may be attributable to the late arrival of said merchants? Or would you, as the central pillar of this community, know of a likely local who might be able to throw some light on this or indeed, regale me with some entertaining tales at the very least?" OOC: Best charismatic smiles when asking this and charm set to overload! ;D

The barman grunts at you, unenthusiastically. "Theres been some reports of attacks along the Trade Way. Mostly by a group of bandits wearing wolf pelts, they seem to operate between here and the Way Inn. The Daggerford Militia sent a patrol to investigate a few days back. They havent come back yet, make of that what you will."
puring you the drink with almost disdain he continues, "Its not good for the timber trade, there are labourers refusing to travel to the Misty Forest in case they are attacked. We can only hope that the Militia manage to stop the attacks."

He didn't much care if anyone saw him with the gems; they weren't his. "I'm no expert, Vane." sighed Dace. "This one," he said, indicating the first, "is a garnet, I think. I reckon it's worth about a ton. This," he moved on to the second, "could well be iol. I hear it brings luck. Got to be worth something, that." he said, smiling. He frowned at the ring. "I suspect this is more valuable to someone as a personal item. I could be wrong. Maybe worth a couple of gold?"He drained his beer before rising from the table. "Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good night, Vane." he said, and left to go up to his room. Here he threw out his bedroll and, using his pack as a pillow, settled down for the night.

Eh?" he replied excitedly "Aye me too." he nodded in agreement and finished his beer. Looking to the bar he noticed Zeric waving at him as he left, he followed Dace up the stairs. "Zeric Im off to bed as well, see ye in the morning "

Date : Ches the 8th, Year of the the Rogue Dragons (1373 D.R.) Location : Bowshot, Inn Time : Daybreak Weather: Clear and cold
The four men sharing the room, are waking due the light of dawn creeping through the windows. The noises coming for the kitchen don't allow you to sleep in either, the banging of pots and pans combining with the orange early light waking you almost instantly. All feeling slightly groggy.
It wasn't as if last nights sleep was any better, between the cold of the wind that rattles through the cold Inn and Zeric's snoring. You were lucky if you got six or so hours of sleep.
Grabbing your gear, you carry it downstairs only for the elven woman Nimen to be waiting for you downstairs in the bar, smiling as you enter she points to the table she is sat beside, which has bowls of food laid out on it, mostly porridge and other grains. Probably on the most part filling but bland.
"Well boys, I hope you slept well. I, for one, had a fantastic sleep. I am now ready to track down those monsters who have my people. Ready for a fight?" she pats her sword and smiles looking eager for action
OOC- if you notice Ive change the date, to Ches as my month was out. In other words I called March the incorrect name. Its just a name change anyway. Which Ill rectify throughout all the stories when I have time to go through them.

Around a bowl of porridge, Dace nodded to his travelling companion. "I will be ready to leave when you are, Mistress Nimen."

Zeric said nothing to the elven woman by way of greeting. Instead, he ordered a bowl of porridge and a cup of hot tea, sitting down and tucking in with gusto. Finishing, he finally returned Nimen's greeting.
"I spoke to the innkeeper before I retired last night. He told me of rumours of bandit attacks between here and the Way Inn. He said the tales told of the bandits being clad in wolf pelts. One thing did strike me as unusual behaviour for common bandits, though. He told of attacks on the local foresters affecting the lumber trade. If I were a bandit, I would not waste my time robbing foresters - they have no riches. This does sound like a concerted effort to disrupt trade and the economy in this area. For what motive, I know not, but I smell something fishy, and for once, it's not our fragrant priest..."

"Im washing every night now, Zeric. Trying t' give this clean thing a try." replied the priest with porridge in his mouth, not quite seeing the irony in what he said.

The elf maiden looked up at Zeric's summation with a surprised look on her face, "Interesting Zeric. It would only make sense that someone would want to disrupt trade in this area, only if they wanted to take over the area, or at least set up a some rival trade route. Who would want to do that? The Zhentarim? The Iron Throne? Both of these would certainly wouldn't be above hiring someone else to do their dirty work."She shakes her head, "Ive not heard much of the Iron Throne recently, their last episode being a few winters back. Not out of their league and definately their modus operandi. the Zhents? Well it could be them. I think you are correct, there does seem to be a controlling hand at work here

"Well, there's one way t' find out!" said Cathmhaol as he finished his gruel, "If ye lads are finished, we'll be on our way."
He stood up and belted on his sword, "We'll be headin' to t' Way Inn, eh lassie?"he said to Nimen.

"Yes that would be the most sensible option, however, its a two day ride from here. So I reckon we'd need to stop over at one of the camp sites on the Trade Way. They are not protected but are semi defendable." Nodded Nimen in reply.
"Or maybe Dace could show us the place where he was attacked? We may be able to pick up a trail from there." Sh continued looking at the Caravan guard.

Although with the troubles they've been having consolidating their hold over Zhent Keep and hunting down and butchering every follower of Cyric have kept them busy since The Time of Troubles... Maybe they're turning their sights to conquest once more... Wasn't it the Zhentarim who led the invasion of Shadowdale at around the same time?" OOC: Going on memory there, (and the FR Wiki) please consider it as the result of rumours (not necessarily true ones) that Zeric's heard over the years...

" commented Nimen "Well Id never put anything past the Black Network, but this doesn't seem like their handy work. Theres something rather random going on here, the Zhents prefer to overly plan, it just doesn't fit." She commented. " The Cult of the Black Wolf are followers of Malar. They could be totally behind this, but what would there overall goal be? Subjugation? I'm not sure thats achievable given the resources they have, so what else do they need? What else do they have?" she mused

"Malarites? They may have been merely honoring their God by the slayings or by spreading lycanthropy. However, this is not my area of expertise," the sorceror replied
He turned to his companions, "Dace, were the killings more bloody and long than usual? Vane? What know you of the followers of Malar and their ways?"
