Zeric lifted his hands with exaggerated slowness in a gesture of surrender.

"Put yer hands down, ye big sissy!" hissed Cathmhaol. He straightened up and looked around at the rest of the 'Daggers. "Sheath yer weapons, lads. An' no fightin' unless I say so!"
He turned back to the guards. "Lead on," he said.

The Guards led the Daggers' to where the rest of the Wizards were standing. The women who had been shouting most of the orders stepped forward
"You were the ones who kidnapped one of MY charges? You really have some front coming to my holding and then upsetting another of MY charges?" She shouted.

"We've not touched any o' yer charges," snarled Cathmhaol. "We were the ones who rescued the two lads kidnapped from the town an' sold into slavery, an' as a result, yer missin' wizard was returned to ye."

"Slavery? What do you mean Slavery? We know that dealing in sentients is illegal here in the North." She replied
"Are you the leader? You want to explain yourself better? Before I lose my patience?" She said pointedly at Cathmhaol

Zeric stood, arms folded and waited for the entertainment that would be Cathmhaol's explanation. Since I have no idea what he's on about, this should be interesting...

Carthmhaol paused a moment to gather his thoughts then proceeded to tell his tale.
"I was in the Lady Luck t'other day wi' my lads, when Millgan an' some o' yer dress-wear... err, wizards came in. They was after a wizard called Cadzen or Cadzeus or sommat. Millgan didn't like the answer he got from Darryl, the innkeeper, an' he threatened t' burn down his inn."
"Now Darryl's a friend o' mine so I felt honoured t' help out. It turns out that two other lads had gone missin' since yer lot turned up and it looked like someone had taken yer wizard as a way o' gettin' even. The lads had last been seen wi' a tall, dark haired lass who arrived in town the same time as yer good selves, an' it looked like someone put two an' two together an' got five. A few more lads had gone missin' o'er the past few months so ye's can understand the locals gettin' jumpy."
"Darryl gi' us the name o' a friend o' the lads who went missin', but he scarpered as soon as look at us. Young Garri knows some people though, an' they said that the lassie was sommat t' do wi' ye's." He held up his hand, as some of the wizards stirred, "Now I'm not sayin' they're right, so just hear me out!" he barked.
"Anyways, I was comin' out this way wi' young Garri here, and we came across some cart tracks. One set lead from the town; another was headin' south. It was obvious that a load had been swapped between the carts an' we followed the cart that had the heavier load. There was two lads in the back - drugged by the look o' it - so I had a wee chat wi' the driver an' reminded him o' the Duke's punishment for slavers. He was more n' happy t' let me bring the lads home after that."
"He said he'd got 'em from his contact - a bald lassie, an' he mentioned that ye lot don't ha' no hair either." Cathmhaol frowned at one of the younger wizards who looked as if he was about to speak, then carried on. "I quizzed the two lads an they said they were drugged by a tall, exotic looking lassie wi' brown hair, so whether that's a wig or sommat, who knows?"
"So I let the lads go, keepin' my deal wi' Garri's friends, an' this mornin' I get a message that yer Cad-fella's been released an' I should come an talk t' ye lot t' find out what's goin' on..."
Cathmhaol let the statement hang in the air, waiting for one of the wizard's to speak.

"So youve done the deal, what do your associates expect to find out now? Are you accusing us the Red Wizards of being slavers? None of us have hair, so where are your leads now?" exclaimed the leader.

Zeric stepped forward, "I heard no accusations. What Cathmhaol has said is clearly an expression of how ignorant peasants and villagers might see things. I have a strong feeling that the famed Red Wizards of Thay are not stupid enough to engage in blatantly illegal activities!"
Zeric paused for effect, "Is it not the Red Wizard way to exert influence through the great device of trade? Do not the mighty ones of Thay make themselves indispensible to the local economy and thus make themselves integral to the area? Where would be the sense or indeed the profit in such a group as yourselves engaging in the trafficking of ignorant peasants? The very idea is laughable to anyone with even a modicum of intellect or education in the ways of Faerun."

She smiled as she asked the question, pondering. "So if you are our not our enemies, then let us ask the question again. Why do people in Daggerford believe that we the Red Wizards are involved in this? If it is us surely you will have some proof."

"Aren't you the astute one? Whats your name?" She smiled as she asked the question, pondering. " Zeric," he replied. "So if you are our not our enemies, then let us ask the question again. Why do people in Daggerford believe that we the Red Wizards are involved in this? If it is us surely you will have some proof." " The people of Daggerford are mostly ignorant peasants, governing their every emission of flatulence 'pon superstition and auguries. They have no more wit and free will than my brother, Throgbur," Zeric answered. " Bearing this essential fact in mind will bode well for ye all." Zeric shrugged, " Witless farmers and townsfolk need no proof when congregating in a lynch mob. 'tis enough that you are strangers - to say nothing of being wizards; the arcane arts are feared by the cretinous. They know naught, nor care for the power and knowledge it brings - content only to hate what they do not understand, label it evil and weird! Until, that is; they need the services of magic - for a love potion or a cure for their hideous progeny. This is all the proof they require. Nothing more, nothing less. Cromm's Daggers thought ye might like to know that there seemed to be some form of conspiracy 'gainst your organisation." He turned to Cathmhaol, " Ye have the note? Show them and we can be done with it."

Cathmhaol reached into his jerkin and pulled out the crumpled paper. He smoothed it against his thigh and handed it to the wizard.

Garri tugged at Cathmhaol's sleave, "Bossif theyre not involved, why did she run?" He pointed at the woman Red Wizard who was also held by the guards.
