With greater ease than my brother here can walk and talk at the same time," Zeric replied, seemingly careless of any feelings Throgbur might have. " Though I'll not put her in harm's way, mind! A sorceror and his familiar are.... close. Throgbur swelled with pride at the mention from his brother, misinterpreting its meaning. "Aye, I can walk and talk at the same time." he said, stumbling through some undergrowth.

Date : Ches the 2nd, Year of the the Rogue Dragons (1373 D.R.) Location : A clearing in the Lizard Marsh, The Duchy of Daggerford[As you enter the clearing, carrion birds rise from the trail, frightened by your approach. Pushing through some tall reeds, you see the remains of a fight. Dead men and horses sinking into the patches of deep mud that surround the path on both sides. Across the path is the body of a large dead lizard, not unlike a wingless dragon. KIrdan leads you into the clearing and inspects one of the dead bodies. "This is the Baron's Party" He holds up a sheild whose coat of arms depicts a lizard on it. "Zeric, keep yer fam-ill-ee-arr up aloft an' make sure nothin's sneaking about!" ordered Cathmhaol. "And any o' ye needin' a decent weapon, helps yerself. These fella's won't be usin' 'em no more!"He turned to Kirdan, "Right 'en, Curly - any o' these dead un's the Baron?"

"Yes," Zeric nodded, communicating with Here as he waited.

"Yes the Baron is over here." The young noble replied pointing to a dead body "At least I think its him? His signet ring and weapons are missing, like all the others. The Lizard Men must have taken them, after the fight with the large lizard. "
The half-elf women wandered around checking each of the bodies, in the forlorn hope that someone may be alive.
Alzhedo, nodded to the others and stood at the top of the hillock in the clearing, seemingly on lookout for something.

"Damn, I could ha' done with a new sword!" said Cathmhaol, seemingly more concerned with the missed opportunity for looting than for the fate of the men lying dead before him. "Ha' a look around, Curly. See if ye can find which way yon lizards went".
He strolled across to the giant monk. "What is it? What can ye see?"

"I am not sure, something is not quite right. Theres something......" And with the monks trailing words a large creature, not dislike the dead lizard on the ground, came crashing into the clearing. The shouts of warning from Zeric coming a little to late. The creature, with a huge gash down its side, thrashed its head from side to side in pain. Its huge jaws snapping at Throgbur and Kirdan who are the closest to it, on either side. OOC- Ill need your fighting actions, please.

"WATCH THE HEAD!!" yelled Cathmhaol, "Ye'll be done for if it catches ye!!""Curly! Big Fella! Get out o' there!" he shouted, moving forward, banging his sword against his shield, trying to distract the beast from its prey and to give the others an opening. "Don't just stand there the rest o' ye! Get in there!" OOC1: If the beast comes for Cathmhaol he'll try to keep it at bay with his shield and aim for the tender bits - eyes, mouth, throat - to keep it occupied whilst the rest kill it.
OOC2: Yes, I know it's heroic - thank me later
OOC3: Assuming that is, Cathmhaol doesn't get stomped into a bloody puddle ...

As the closest person to the creature, Throgbur swung the already hefted axe straight at the already wounded creature, hoping to bring it down, but possibly acting a little too late... Whilst stepping forward, he also took a step directly in front of his brother. OOC: 5' step forward and in front of his brother, swing axe at beastie, probably missing

Zeric summoned the madical energies at his command, forming them to his will. He gestured and bolts of magical energy flew at the lizard.
OOC: Magic Missile

Avoiding its massive jaws, Thorgrud rolls and takes a swipe at the creature just missing it. Thogrud then backs off towards his brother using his axe defensively.
The creature was distracted is hit on the other side of its injury as it was struck by Kirdan's sword. It then snapped it jaws at the advancing Cathmhaol who was clashing his shield loudly in front of it. Cathmhaol proded wildly at the creature, more interested in avoiding its massive maw. At Cathmhaol's side, the monk managed to poke the creature in the left eye with his quterstaff, causing it to howl in pain. From behind the monk, a magical bolt from Zeric also stikes it, confusing it and hurting it more.
Finally from behind Throgbur and Zeric, Myr threw her spear hard at the creature striking it where the original gash was. It howled in pain, its last breath escaping from its body. Falling forward its mouth dangerously open, the creature just misses Cathmhaol and Alzhedo.
OOC- The creature looks dead, but it was rather wounded when it appeared.

Breathing heavily, Cathmhaol raised his sword in warning to the others, "The beast is down but it may still live - approach it carefully!"
He stepped backwards, making sure he was out of reach of the creature's teeth but close enough to strike, if necessary. With the tip of his sword, he indicated that the half-orc and the monk should finish off the beast.
OOC: Once the beast is confirmed as dead:
"Zeric!" barked Cathmhaol sharply, "What use is yer fam-ill-ee-arr if it cannot spot such a large creature as this?"

Zeric refused to dignify the question with a repy, instead, looking for clues among the dead as to the direction the lizardmen had taken into the swamp.
"Damn and blast!" he cursed, "Is there anyone among us with the skill to track these creatures?"
OOC: It was a good question, Phil. Paul?

OOC- The creatures seem to have headed off in a south-westerly direction into the swamp, the trail isnt to hard to follow as the Lizard men have probably assumed that all the men who followed them are now dead. The massacre in the clearing. So they havent been actually disguising their trail. Myr and Kirdan can follow it better that the others of the group.
"The trail goes this way Zeric," Replied Myr pointing in a south westerly direction . "its rather easy to spot. I doubt the Lizardmen were actually disguising their passage."

"Aye, I'll lead us, but ye better watch yer tone else I'll shove that fam-ill-ee-ar up yer arse!" snarled Cathmhaol.
He turned away from the young mage, and beckoned to Kirdan and Myr. "Curly, ye and the lassie get yerselves up that trail! Keep it quiet though; I just want to know where they've gone. Don't go gettin' into any fights!"
"Get goin'! We'll be twenty yards a'hind ye!"
