Hi folks, I use facebook and twitter if anyone else does! You can find me on twitter under the name Aktoura. I also have a blog site set up to help document my attempts to make iphone games for a living. Come along and have a look! Especially if you have an iphone. I am working on a rpg game with some (I hope!) neat ideas burried in it. Cheers all and sorry for totally random attempt to rope people in to following me on the net!! in-the-beginning-games.blogspot.com/

I also work on the iPhone so if you want to ask some questions I'll try to help. I look forward to seeing what you produce. My hints are solid design before you start coding and using incremental targets - nothing motivates like seeing stuff move around on screen Best of luck. (P.S. my game is called Play Marbles if you want to find it on the App Store)

As soon as my phone turns up I will check you out in the name of research, that way it counts as work Thanks for the advice. I have a lot of concept work done and very solid ideas. I am lucky enough that my brother in law (who I am working with on this) is an amazing coder. I am the ideas man, so we can split out time to the stuff we are best suited to. We are close to having the first of our tools sorted so we can load content in to the game. Next thing to work on is the AI scripting so we can test some actual combats and check to see if I have made anything super underpowered or overpowered from the word go (which is probably a yes)! Will keep in touch over it. Cheers, Al

*sighs*... Now I want a bloody iPhone again! Seriously mate, if your computer skills are anything to go by, I wouldn't "Harv, I hit this button and a red light came on, what does that mean?" "I aint sure mate, but according to the news the Pentagon just went to Defcon 1..."

Are you registered as self employed and pay VAT on revenue generated from the app store? I am trying to figure this all out, but so far nobody official I have spoken to seems to have a clue what I am talking about! I think technology has moved too quickly for the tax department to get their heads around...

I think technology has moved too quickly for the tax department to get their heads around... I'm employed by Eclipse Interactive so "it's just a job" for me. At a guess you don't need to do anything special for tax purposes except record it as income. If you want some of the extras of being employed (i.e. reduced tax, special tax breaks, legal cover) you might want to look into being declared self employed (or starting a company to handle the development). As always this is just an opinion - talk to a lawyer if you want to be sure.
