The rusty dwarf barrelled into the tap room, stumbling over the thresh-hold. Flushing a bright beet red behind his beard in embarrasment, Rumbleskin made his way - carefully - to the bar and climbed the stool next to Cath's. Rumbleskin nodded gratefully at the proffered drink and responded to Cath's question with "Well, th' place be bigger than 'twas, that's fer sure!". Rumbleskin took a mighty quaff from the tankard, smacked his lips and assumed 'the pose' at the bar (You know the one... slouching comfortably on the bar stool, elbow on the bar, feet resting on whatever is convenient...). OOC: I'll let you know just as soon as I get that e-mail from Paul OOC- Mail sent.....

"Pleased to meet you both," the young sorceror replied, pleasantly*. "This talk of a lizard king troubles me... The lizards of the marshes were ne'er much of a problem, beyond nuisance value, that is - surely the Daggerford militia would have put paid to any such ambition?"
*OOC: Zeric's turning on his full charismatic charm to gain any scraps of information he can on the rumours pertaining to Daggerford or the Lizard King.

"Well its like this, Zeric. It was Zeric wasnt it? " responded the merchant.
"People are starting to leave Daggerford, those with money, power or influence are moving out. Only the poor, the militia and the non humans are staying. Dwarves and Elves, moving towards the town. Preparing for a battle. It is as if they know whats coming down the line." he said with all seriousnes
"Im not going back to the town as long as that threat remains, the death of a lot of the outlying Baron's and the movement of that army is killing the land. I think that Cromm, Merthan and D'sann have all had their lands grabbed by the forces of the Lizard King. Its only a matter of time before more get grabbed." he just looked desperate
"Im sure that Waterdeep & the other cities would help. But the rise of Shades, Luskan and other evils, is stretching them thin. And lets be honest the Harpers are no good at all"

At the bar, Maylene smiled at Dace. "Well stud, we best go and look at your grandmothers house. Im sure we can pick up the keys on the way." She said flirty
"As much as I enjoy getting drunk, Id like to get my land legs back after the days at sea." she winked at the caravan guard

"Sure, let's go." Finishing his drink and standing, Dace nodded at Cathmhaol. "I guess we'll see you later boss." and the pair left the bar.

"Go on kids," said Cathmhaol, raising his tankard in mock salute, "knock yersel's out."
He watched as the two left the bar with a wry grin on his face. He drained his tankard and waved to the barman to fill it up again.
"Well," he said, turning to the dwarf, "are ye ready t' tell us what ye found?"

"Well its like this, Zeric. It was Zeric wasnt it? " responded the merchant. Zeric nodded the affirmative. " Hmmm, it would seem as though the old alliances of the tales of yore are still remembered among the demihumans... I've heard tell of a great army of humans, dwarves and elves, many hundreds of years ago, gathering together to quell an uprising of an ancient lizard king..." Zeric offerred his own rumour to encourage more gossip to be brought forth. Zeric appeared shocked, " Baron Cromm has fallen? 'tis sad tidings you bear, sir... for the baron was well reputed to be one of the Duke's most stalwart vassals and a just lord to his commoners. Sad tidings..." " These are troubled times, indeed, Good merchant..." Zeric looked puzzled, " Sorry, but it seems that in all the excitement and worry of hearing news of home, I've completely forgotten your name, sir...? Let me buy you another drink and we shall talk more of these troubled times, eh?" [/b] [/quote] " Sometimes I wonder if that organisation is more based in myth and legend to fill the minds of the hopeless with the thin gruel of hope," Zeric replied. " The one person I have met in my years who proclaimed themselves Harper turned out to be a traitor who almost had my friends and I off to Kelemvor's Realm..." OOC: Basically, Zeric's spinning yarns out of facts and half-truths in order to milk the table (and possibly the ones around us) into offering their own opinions. He'll listen, digest and draw his own conclusions from what he hears.

I've heard tell of a great army of humans, dwarves and elves, many hundreds of years ago, gathering together to quell an uprising of an ancient lizard king..." Zeric offerred his own rumour to encourage more gossip to be brought forth. "That looks to be happening again. Maybe they in their long life they still have those that remember, maybe we in our short lives cannot" he replied Zeric appeared shocked, " Baron Cromm has fallen? 'tis sad tidings you bear, sir... for the baron was well reputed to be one of the Duke's most stalwart vassals and a just lord to his commoners. Sad tidings..." "Certainly looks that way. Its said that the Baron was a little harsh in his treatment of the Liizard Men. Maybe thats why he was attacked first. Its also said that he and some adventurers made a pact with the shaman "yelloweyes", but that noble lizard man was allegedly captured by an orc adventurer and taken into the forgotten Mines of Illetfarn. With him went Cromm's wife, captured and hidden away." The merchant shook his head " These are troubled times, indeed, Good merchant..." Zeric looked puzzled, " Sorry, but it seems that in all the excitement and worry of hearing news of home, I've completely forgotten your name, sir...? "Kihomenan Silvertongue, Ive never had time for Harpers, the interfering busy bodies " Zeric looked around furtively as the other said that last, offering in a whisper, " I agree with you, Kihomenan. Although perhaps in this town, 'tis best not to profess such opinions so loudly, lest you attract the wrong type of attention, eh?" He laughed to break the tension, " Another drink?" <WFR (Wait for reply)> He followed up with, " How long have you been in Waterdeep? I have been up north - family business in Neverwinter and am recently arrived in the City of Splendors and as a newcomer, I am sadly out of touch with the news and happenings here... perhaps you might go some small way to filling me in...?"

"Of course a drink would be nice" he replied
"We left tenday ago. Took a few days to travel in the boat and arrived here a day or so ago. Came with a number of people, a large half orc and a beautiful elf maiden, a few priests of Eldath and a warrior. All who were getting out of the town, worn down by the thought of the upcoming siege." he sighed.
"Well you know in this town they all want to go into Undermountain, adventurers? Is that why your here?" he asked

Is that why your here?" he asked Zeric's soul chilled at the mention of the elf and the half-orc. Coming from Daggerford, it could only be that shit Throgbur and the traitor whore. He resolved to be careful, lest showing too much eagerness for more information betray his need to track down his half-twin. He resolved to answer carefully and calmly, " No, I am here as a scholar. I seek to be apprenticed to a scribe and learn the craft of bookbinding - that's the only adventures I'm interested in; those that are written of." He paused, feigning thought" A half-orc, you say? From Daggerford? Perhaps it is Throgbur who used to be in the militia of that town. Maybe he can bring news of my friends who, last I heard from them, were in Daggerford. Did they perhaps mention where they were staying in Waterdeep?"

"Hmmmm....." said the merchant, then wispering "they spoke of heading into Undermountain, looking for the rumoured Port of Shadows. Your not supposed to talk of such things the place, doesnt exist " h
Speaking again in a louder voice "You know sir, they just all head off to the Yawning Portal, drink and then get lowered to cetrtain death in the halls of the largest grave in all of Faerun"

Zeric nodded sagely, "Aye Kinomen, I think you might be right at that... life's far too short for any of that adventuring nonsense."
He made pleasant, though innocuous conversation after that, on topics from the lingering winter, to the cost of ink and good quality quills these days, then made his excuses and left, seeking out Cathmhaol and the others after making his excuses and thanking the man for his company and the conversation.
OOC: Gimme a shout when my time's caught up to the others, will you Paul?
