OOC- starting a small thread for Zeric and Throg to register the adventuring company and anythin else they plan to do
Date :Ches the 3rd, Year of the the Rogue Dragons (1373 D.R.) Location : Heralds and Runners Union, Daggerford Time : Lunchtime Weather: Sunny but cold
The outside of the Herald's and Runners Union building is three stories tall with a platform built on the roof to make it even taller. The platform on top of the roof is actually a bird coup used for trained messenger birds to that are sent to representatives in the hamlets and villages surrounding Daggerford.
As you enter the ground floor this spartan building has a long counter that runs the full length of the building. Its plain duskwood top has a small wiry man with a hooked nose standing behind it.
"Registration of adventuring company say ye? Aye its an easy enough to do Sir. We just have to fill out a couple of forms and have them sent to the duke. It will take a couple of days to register, but Ill give you a temporary certificate so that you can operate in the meantime. Remember that this is only valid in the Duchy of Daggerford." The officious little man continued. "The cost of this will be one hundred golden lions. So to fill out these forms what's the name of this company?"

Zeric replied, "Cromm's Daggers, will be the name of this band. We are soon to be recruiting members, do you need to know the member's names, or will the charter be open to addition?"
He turned to his brother, "Throgbur, you should know this stuff, should you not? Tell me about it!"

"The charter is open to addtition, but you are limited to a maximum of twelve members. Any more and you are considered a mercenary band which will cost you four thousand golden lions for a charter." replied the man "Write down your charter founders, you can add the rest when you obtain more."

He turned to his brother, " Throgbur, you should know this stuff, should you not? Tell me about it!" Without realising his brother was taunting him, putting him on the spot, Throgbur blinked and appeared both surprised and dumbfounded. "Uh. Ah..." he began, putting one finger on his bottom lip, "I... I don't know. No... Uh..." he floundered, panicking. "Um. Zeric? I don't know. I am sorry." he said, appearing defeated and upset he had let his brother down.

"Never mind," Zeric said with the usual exasperation. "I suppose it was too much to ask..."
He dipped the quill into the inkwell and signed in his neat hand, Zeric of Westview, Cathmhaol (OOC: Does he have a surname?), Throgbur of Westview and Garrion of Daggerford.
"There," he announced, "That'll do to be going on with. Twelve you say?"
He handed over the one hundred gold pieces, "I shall require a receipt."

"Ill draw up the papers, Sir. Can you come back in an hour and Ill give you four Letters of Venture for those named? Ill create the other eight, but well need the other names, so that they can have the letters. You do understand about peace knots, dont you?" asked the man retorically.

OOC: I, the player, do understand what a peace knot is (AKA Peace Binding, IIRC?), but Zeric might not necessarily know, so my reply will be in keeping with that...
Zeric furrowed his brow, "A Peace knot? What is that?"
OOC2: I guess then it's off to the barracks to drum up some recruits... Using the old, "Join the army, it's great fun and best of all? No one shoots at you and the pay's great!" schtick... to return after one hour for our letters.

"Yes sir a Peace Knot. Its a method of tying your weapon up in the town, which is probably the only rule for adventurers who are registered. Of course, many adventurers have Peace Knots that can be pulled apart easily. Remember that the Militi a may challenge you if not." Replied the clerk, signing four documents . "Are you currently looking for work sir? I may know of an opportunity" enquired the clerk
OOC - yeah thats correct some drumming up of troops and return.

Zeric's ears pricked up in response to the clerk's question, "Hey, Throg!! Listen in here and stop your mind wandering all over the place!"
He returned his full attention to the clerk, "I do apologise for my *ahem* brother... long story, you understand? What were you saying about perhaps knowing of some available work? We are, indeed, most interested in any contract which may be of a... um... lucrative nature..."
He considered this to himself, And this may be just the worm to bait the hook for the militia's little 'fishfits'!
He chuckled to himself, apologising, "Sorry, my brother is such an idiot at times, it is all I can do to stop laughing... It's either that or sink into the deepest trenches of despair. Please, do continue..."

Throgbur, attempting to listen to what his brother was saying, was trying to work out how a piece of string could keep you out of a fight. If it were possible, steam would be coming out of his ears.

"Well Sir, we only use the ground and the third floor of this establishment. The second floor is used for rental's, people passing through the 'Ford who cant afford an Inn for the length of their stay. Now we have a long term resident, a man called Tresthwick. Who has lived there for three years, but he always pays months in advance and in large coinage or gems. Not our normal clientele your understand. Now if the man was an adventurer then it would make sense but hes not." The man paused, took a drink of water and hands you two documents.
"Here are your Documents of Venture, so you can carry out your task. Ill waive payment of your registration if you can find out how Testhwick gets his money. We just hope hes not a criminal or worse..." Continued the man "he leaves the rooms everyday at sunrise and returns at Sundown. So what do say?"

Zeric nodded, " I shall put your offer to our leader, Cathmhaol and shall have an answer for you in one hour upon our return. Will that suffice?" He awaited the clerk's reply and then nodded to his brother, as he headed for the door, " Come, Throgbur! One foot in front of the other; there's a good lad...now breathe in and out at the same time." OOC: What say ye, Harv? Off to the barracks to see how many fools recruits we can drum up? And shall we take the offer and to hang with what Cathmhaol says (the big hairy windbag! )?
